Tempo furloughs temp candidates impacted by coronavirus
The coronavirus pandemic has caused thousands of businesses to close, enforced non-essential workers to stay home, and left millions of people without jobs – temporarily and permanently.
A few weeks ago the government introduced its new job retention scheme, making the word “furlough” as common in everyday conversations as “Tea?”.
With furlough, employers are able to get support of up to 80% of their employees’ wages, up to a maximum of £2,500 per month. It is currently estimated that 9 million people – 10% of the private sector workforce – will be laid off due to the pandemic.
We realise that this is a difficult time for businesses. And it’s an extremely difficult time for workers who are suddenly left unemployed, frantically applying to jobs hoping that someone is still hiring.
Unfortunately, some of the companies we work with have had to let their temp workers go. All candidates placed in temp work through Tempo were suddenly left without any support – not qualifying for the furlough scheme. So we have decided to offer our help.
“We know how challenging these times are, and searching for a job is undoubtedly more difficult now than ever. That’s why we have decided to help these candidates and furlough them through Tempo.” says Ollie Povey, Co-Founder and COO at Tempo.
To further support these candidates, we will provide them with free access and a £100 credit to learning & development platform Learnerbly. Learnerbly’s platform offers learning resources including books, courses, webinars, podcasts, online videos and articles, in topic areas like coding, AI, finance, leadership, UX design, product management, wellbeing and much more – providing the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill or develop a current one while being furloughed.
We will reach out directly to all the candidates impacted, and we are pleased with the positive response we’ve had so far.
“I am delighted, and somewhat surprised, to have received this email from Tempo considering the other part time jobs I have not offered furloughing. I think it is a great idea and I would like to opt into the furlough. I look forward to making best use of Learnerbly and receiving the link to access the material.Once again thank you for taking such positive action. I hope that you, and everyone else at Tempo is managing in these difficult times.” said one of our fantastic temps.
At Tempo, we’re passionate about supporting jobseekers. We know that looking for a new job sucks, and it definitely sucks more right now than ever. Stay safe and healthy out there people! 💛
